Miracles in Motion

By: Christy Stettler

The miracles were definitely in motion at the Norris-Penrose Event Center on the evening of September 23. Despite having to cancel our riding demonstrations due to the muddy arena, people gave generously at our yearly fundraising gala aptly named Miracles in Motion. The event, led by the energetic Elizabeth Winston, raised approximately $40,000 for Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center.

The record breaking 200+ people dined on pork chops with peach chutney for the main course and ended with a divine flourless chocolate horse with orange Crčam Anglaise, all prepared by Garden of the Gods Gourmet. Tables were adorned with beautiful bouquets designed and donated by Rich Designs using one of our horses’ favorite treats – carrots. Oats and miniature hay bales decorated the silent auction tables.

Several eyes welled up while watching the DVD on Hippotherapy created by Therapist Dave Motley and all were inspired by the stories Dee Hiatt and Irene Lucas shared about their experiences with PPTRC. Auctioneer, James Higgens, tempted the crowd with horse and rider sponsorships as well as a private wine and beer reception at Garden of the Gods Gourmet, a mountain getaway near Steamboat Springs, a Corvette Z06 School for High Performance Driving Package and a week in a Cozumel home. Bottles of champagne were given to the highest bidders compliments of Cheers Liquor Mart.

All in all, it was a wonderfully fun event that raised much needed funds for PPTRC. Thanks to all involved for making it a success!

Committee members included Elizabeth Winston (chair), Nonie Beal, Christine Chiacchia, Kathleen Collins, Susan Daniels, Bob Harrison, Carol Heddings, Kari Hibbert, Mark Pimentel, Debbie Skillicorn, Betsy Sobral and Susan Wilmont.
